Anthropic unveils Claude Haiku 5.5, a cheaper AI model ahead of IPO
Anthropic introduced Claude Haiku 5.5, the latest addition to its Claude 5.5 series, offering lower costs for classification and summarization tasks.
The new Haiku 5.5 model is designed for functions such as classification, summarization, extraction, live support, voice agents, and in-app assistants. Its pricing is 75% lower than the prior Haiku 4.5, at $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens for prompts under 100,000 tokens, with higher rates for longer prompts. Anthropic also noted that this version includes built-in safeguards for a limited set of high-risk cybersecurity requests, while everyday uses remain unchanged.
Why it matters
The cheaper, safeguarded AI model could broaden access to advanced language tools and influence Anthropic's IPO prospects.
