Anti-corruption prosecutors conduct 96 raids across six Romanian counties targeting border officials

Prosecutors from the National Anticorruption Directorate’s Oradea office carried out 96 searches Monday morning in six counties, focusing on border police and customs staff suspected of taking bribes.

On Monday morning, prosecutors from the National Anticorruption Directorate’s Oradea territorial service executed 96 raids across the Romanian counties of Satu Mare, Bihor, Sălaj, Maramureș, Cluj and Mureș. The sweeps included the headquarters of two public institutions and the residences of several individuals. Investigators are probing a case that alleges frontier police officers and customs employees accepted various sums of money in exchange for actions related to their responsibilities at the Halmeu border crossing in Satu Mare between 2025 and 2026.

The DNA is receiving assistance from the General Anticorruption Directorate, the Bihor County Gendarmerie Inspectorate, the Mobile Gendarmerie Group of Cluj-Napoca, and the county police inspectorates of Bihor and Cluj. The raids aim to gather evidence of the suspected bribery scheme. Authorities have not disclosed any arrests or further details.
