Anti-ICE demonstrators assault federal corrections officers outside Los Angeles detention center

Around sunset on Sunday, anti-ICE activists gathered outside the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles, a site that also houses a U.S. District Court. As two federal corrections officers finished their shift and headed to their vehicles, a mob of roughly 40 to 50 protesters, including individuals wearing a keffiyeh and a Palestine flag, approached and assaulted them. Footage shows the officers being beaten, having their authorized clear bag taken, and one officer pulling a gun while trying to leave the scene.

LAPD Central Division received several emergency calls and intervened, ultimately arresting two participants. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli warned that assaults on federal officers carry felony charges. Both officers required medical treatment and remain in the hospital, while investigators continue to examine the attack as both felony and misdemeanor battery.
