Antifa protest in Bremen erupts into stone and fireworks attack on police
A Bremen Antifa rally before the German Unity Day festivities turned violent when participants hurled stones and pyrotechnics at officers, injuring one police member.
Ahead of the central German Unity Day celebrations in Bremen, the Basisgruppe Antifaschismus Bremen called a protest that drew roughly 700 participants, despite an official registration of 300. Demonstrators marched from the Brill district through the Neustadt, displaying banners condemning German nationalism and militarisation. Police accompanied the march with a large presence, including an aerial helicopter, and reported intermittent use of flares and firecrackers.
The situation escalated at the Sielwallkreuzung, where a larger crowd launched stones, bottles and pyrotechnic devices at police, leading officers to deploy additional forces and detain several individuals. One officer sustained injuries from the fireworks and required medical care. The Bremer Verfassungsschutz classifies the organizing group as part of a violent left-extremist scene and has initiated criminal proceedings while investigations continue.
