In the University City area of San Diego, vandals targeted the Alpha Epsilon Pi Jewish fraternity house at UC San Diego, spray-painting swastikas, the letters “KKK” and various racial slurs on both interior and exterior walls sometime between Aug 7 and Aug 8. The San Diego Police Department classified the incident as a hate crime, launched an investigation and announced a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest, though no suspect has yet been identified.
UCSD Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla described the graffiti as “abhorrent and unacceptable,” pledged support for the students affected and warned that anyone violating law or university policy will be pursued to the fullest extent. The university reported the matter to relevant campus offices and is coordinating assistance for the fraternity members. Police have asked witnesses who observed suspicious persons or vehicles near the residence during the two-day window to contact investigators.
