Anupam Mittal warns AI firms that India demands real value, not cheap copies

Shark Tank India judge Anupam Mittal posted on LinkedIn that Indian consumers reject simple dollar-to-rupee pricing and force tech firms, especially AI providers, to prove usefulness and affordability.

In a recent LinkedIn post, Anupam Mittal, founder of Shaadi.com and judge on Shark Tank India, challenged the notion that India is a low-cost replica of the U.S. market. He noted that many foreign tech firms launch in India by simply converting dollar prices to rupees, only to face consumers who share accounts, stretch trial periods, and devise creative shortcuts. Drawing on his experience building Shaadi.com, Mittal explained that Indian customers pay only when the result is sufficiently valuable.

He warned that AI companies rolling out India-specific plans are now being taught a lesson in delivering genuine value. Mittal emphasized that India has already reshaped sectors like telecom, payments, and entertainment, and now AI must meet the same rigorous standards to succeed.
