Anwar says Malaysia-China partnership has evolved into a trust-based friendship

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim described the Malaysia-China relationship as a friendship built on trust and confidence during his visit to eastern China. Speaking after Premier Li Qiang’s opening address, Anwar said the bond is a key reason Malaysia values cooperation with President Xi Jinping’s leadership on development and shared prosperity. The meeting, held at the West Lake State Guesthouse, was attended by senior Malaysian officials including Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Johari Abdul Ghani, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Ambassador Norman Muhamad.

Anwar also delivered the keynote at the launch of the Fifth Global Digital Trade Expo, noting that the partnership often faces scrutiny over the South China Sea but remains grounded in mutual interests. Li Qiang highlighted opportunities in digital trade, vocational training and science-technology collaboration, citing Xi’s recent state visit as a new chapter in the ties.
