Anwar says Malaysian investment in Battersea Power Station exceeded cost and is now being recovered

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim told parliament that the Malaysian consortium's initial outlay on the Battersea Power Station redevelopment was too high and caused losses, but recovery efforts are under way.

In a parliamentary session, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim addressed concerns over the Malaysian contribution to the Battersea Power Station redevelopment in London. He acknowledged that the initial investment by the Malaysian consortium was overly large, leading to losses, but emphasized that steps are being taken to recover the money. The consortium, comprising S P Setia Bhd, Sime Darby Property Bhd, the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB), has poured over £5 billion into the 42-acre mixed-use project over 15 years.

Anwar was prompted by MP Hassan Abdul Karim, who asked about the amount invested by government-linked companies and the project's economic benefits. While the exact recovery timeline was not detailed, the prime minister affirmed that the process is ongoing.
