Anwar vows no protection for anyone in corporate mafia probe
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said a special task force will investigate alleged corporate mafia activities and that no one will be shielded.
In a parliamentary session, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed the formation of a special task force, headed by the Attorney-General, to coordinate investigations into alleged corporate mafia conduct. The task force will involve the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, police, Bank Negara Malaysia, the Securities Commission Malaysia, the Inland Revenue Board and the Anti-Money Laundering Crime Investigation team.
Anwar demanded a detailed report be produced and released to the public within three months to avoid any perception of protection for implicated parties. He named individuals previously mentioned in the debate, including Azam Baki, Farhash Wafa Salvado and Victor Chin, and said evidence should be disclosed regardless of who is involved. The prime minister also dismissed allegations that a minister received RM9.5 million as unfounded political statements, noting the minister has denied the claim and taken legal action. He stressed that corruption investigations will not be limited by party lines, citing a pending case involving a former PKR political secretary.
Why it matters
The announcement signals a high-profile effort to tackle corporate corruption and assure the public of impartial investigations.
