Aon nears $17 billion purchase of USI Insurance from KKR

Aon Plc is close to finalising a deal to buy USI Insurance Services from KKR for roughly $17 billion, including debt.

According to insiders, Aon Plc is on the verge of completing a purchase of USI Insurance Services from private-equity firm KKR valued at about $17 billion, debt factored in. The deal may be disclosed as soon as Monday, provided negotiations are wrapped up. KKR originally acquired USI in 2017 together with the Canadian pension fund Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec for $4.3 billion, and has since poured more than $1 billion into the firm, making it the top shareholder.

The transaction would expand Aon’s reach in serving midsize enterprises and is projected to boost USI’s earnings per share by 2028. The report also notes KKR’s recent pattern of large exits, including sales of its CoolIT cooling business and Circor’s aerospace unit. Neither Aon, USI nor KKR commented, and one outlet could not confirm the story independently.

Why it matters

The deal would reshape the insurance brokerage market and signal continued large-scale private-equity exits.
