Apple and Samsung Dominate Global Smartphone Sales in Q2 2026

Data from Counterpoint Research’s Global Handset Model Sales Tracker indicates that Apple’s iPhone 17 topped worldwide smartphone sales for the April-June 2026 quarter, achieving a 6% share of all units sold. The iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Pro complete Apple’s sweep of the top three spots. Samsung follows closely, inserting two Galaxy S series phones into the top ten, with the Galaxy S26 Ultra rising five positions compared with its predecessor.

Apple and Samsung together occupy five slots each, representing 26% of total smartphone sales and marking a 2% rise over the same period last year. This concentration occurs as the broader market shrank by 11%, a trend linked to manufacturers prioritizing flagship and high-volume models to mitigate a global RAM-chip shortage. Counterpoint analysts Karn Chauhan and Harshit Rastogi highlighted strong premium demand, trade-in incentives, and extended software support for budget models as drivers of the current sales landscape.
