Apple confirms AT&T signal loss bug on iPhone 18 Pro Max, offers replacements
Apple has verified a network fault that causes some iPhone 18 Pro Max devices on AT&T to lose service, and says affected users will need a hardware replacement.
Apple has acknowledged a defect affecting a limited number of iPhone 18 Pro Max phones on the AT&T network, where the status bar shows an SOS symbol and cellular functions cease. The company rolled out iOS 27.0.1 along with a carrier-settings update intended to stop new occurrences, urging all owners to install them promptly. However, the software patches cannot revive devices that have already dropped their signal, and Apple advises those users to seek a hardware replacement through its support channels or AT&T. The problem is confined to the U.S. version of the iPhone 18 Pro Max, the only model sold domestically that uses a Qualcomm modem rather than Apple’s own.
Users should verify they have the latest iOS and carrier settings, but if the SOS icon persists, a replacement is required. Apple has not indicated any broader impact on other iPhone models or carriers.
Why it matters
iPhone users on AT&T may lose all cellular service and must replace their device if the bug has already occurred.
