Apple releases iOS 27.0.1 update to fix iPhone 18 Pro Face ID freeze
Apple has issued iOS 27.0.1, a software patch that resolves a Face ID-related freeze affecting iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max devices.
Apple's latest software release, iOS 27.0.1, targets a malfunction that caused iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max devices to freeze after Face ID authentication, followed by an automatic reboot. In addition, the patch addresses a camera defect specific to the new iPhone 18 lineup and stops iOS 27 from locking up when the control center and notification center are opened simultaneously. The update's file size differs by device, estimated at around 500 MB for an iPhone 15 Pro and about 1.2 GB for the iPhone 18 Pro models.
Installation is performed through the Settings app under General and Software Update. Apple describes the fix as a straightforward software solution rather than a hardware problem.
Why it matters
The patch restores reliable operation for new iPhone users experiencing freezes, preserving device usability and brand trust.
