Apple's iPhone 18 Pro versus 17 Pro: specs, price and upgrade value examined

Apple's new iPhone 18 Pro adds a variable-aperture camera, faster A20 Pro chip and longer battery life, but costs £100 more than the 17 Pro.

Apple's latest flagship, the iPhone 18 Pro, retains the 6.3-inch OLED design of its predecessor but trims the Dynamic Island and adds a variable-aperture 48 MP main camera, offering four manual aperture settings. Powered by the new A20 Pro chip built on a 2nm process, it promises up to 40% faster graphics and a larger vapor-chamber cooling system for sustained performance. Battery capacity has been boosted to 34 hours of video playback, and wired charging reaches 50% in 15 minutes with a 60W adapter.

The device launches in burgundy, glacier blue, black and silver, starting at £1,199 for 256 GB, while the iPhone 17 Pro now sells at a discount of about £100. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the advanced camera system, though the overall design and display remain largely unchanged.
