Apple's iPhone Duo launch fuels rapid growth and competition in foldable phones
Apple unveiled its first foldable iPhone Duo, joining a market where shipments are rising sharply and prompting intensified competition among manufacturers.
Apple introduced the iPhone Duo, its inaugural foldable device, at a time when foldable smartphones are gaining momentum, with North American shipments up 28% in 2025 and global growth expected to continue. Motorola, which has been developing foldable technology for over a decade, points to the success of its razr series, now the top-selling flip phone worldwide, and its recent launch of a book-style foldable. The firm recorded the strongest growth among major makers in North America, capturing a 44% share of the regional foldable market.
Analysts forecast that foldable shipments could exceed 100 million units in 2026, driven by new entrants like Apple. While Motorola anticipates a temporary dip in its global share, it remains confident that expanding the razr family will meet diverse consumer needs for portability and larger screens.
