Apple's Mac Studio M5 Ultra delivers massive AI and graphics power at a steep cost

Apple’s latest Mac Studio is powered by the M5 Ultra processor, essentially two M5 Max dies linked together, and supports up to 512 GB of unified memory. In synthetic benchmarks it outpaces the M5 Max and M3 Ultra by roughly 20-30 % across CPU, GPU and neural-engine tasks, and real-world tests demonstrate sub-minute 4K video renders and lightning-fast AI transcription. The compact aluminum chassis remains unchanged, offering a full suite of Thunderbolt 5, USB-A, HDMI 2.1 and 10 Gb Ethernet ports.

Despite its capabilities, the top-end model starts at $11,299, more than twice the price of the M5 Max variant, and the performance gap is modest relative to the cost increase. Apple positions the machine for AI developers needing massive on-device memory, while most content creators may find the cheaper M5 Max sufficient.
