Apple software engineer dies after boat crashes near Golden Gate Bridge
Apple engineer Daniel Zhengyu Qin was killed when his boat capsized near the Golden Gate Bridge, leaving his wife and three young children widowed.
Daniel Zhengyu Qin, a 35-year-old Apple software engineer from San Jose, died from injuries sustained when his boat hit the rocks near Lime Point under the Golden Gate Bridge on the morning of September 17. The incident, observed by a nearby salmon-fishing captain, prompted a rapid multi-agency rescue effort that brought three occupants to a Marin County hospital; Qin later succumbed while the other two survivors continue to receive treatment.
Family friend Cathy Wu described Qin as a devoted husband and father to an 11-year-old son and two daughters aged nine and three, and she started a fundraising campaign to aid his wife Yao Deng with funeral costs and living expenses. The US Coast Guard was alerted immediately, and investigators are now examining the factors that led to the boat’s collision. Qin was remembered for his generosity and willingness to help others in his community.
