Apple trims nearly 150 Bay Area jobs, targeting Vision Pro and Siri teams

Apple disclosed in recent government paperwork that it is eliminating 147 jobs, primarily at its Cupertino headquarters and a Sunnyvale office. The majority of the affected roles are software-engineer and machine-learning positions tied to the Vision Pro mixed-reality headset and the Siri voice assistant. This restructuring follows a pause on Vision Pro development last year as the company shifted focus to smart-glasses intended to compete with Meta’s offerings.

The layoffs occur ahead of a planned change in top leadership, with Tim Cook slated to step down in September and John Ternus expected to take over as chief executive. Apple’s cuts are modest compared with larger workforce reductions at other tech firms this year, which have been driven largely by the push toward artificial-intelligence capabilities.
