Apple TV adds a slate of classic films to its streaming lineup

Apple TV, known for original shows like Ted Lasso and Severance, has begun offering roughly 20 popular movies for streaming without additional fees. The added titles include The Martian, E.T., The Proposal, The Sixth Sense, Titanic and Zodiac, among others, and are labeled as “Just Added” in the catalog. Existing subscribers can watch these films as part of the regular $12.99-monthly or $99-annual plan, while newcomers can sign up for a seven-day free trial that must be cancelled to avoid charges.

The service is available through native apps on smartphones, tablets, PCs and the Apple TV set-top box. Although Apple has not explained the timing or duration of the offering, analysts suggest it is intended to increase user engagement and attract new subscribers, following a trend where classic titles drive viewership on competing platforms. The selection spans several genres, showcasing Apple’s curatorial taste.
