Appliance makers forecast double-digit festive sales despite recent price hikes

Even after a third round of price increases this year, major Indian appliance manufacturers expect sales growth of 10%-15% during the festive period.

A third wave of price revisions this year, driven by rising copper, aluminium, steel, crude derivatives, freight and currency pressures, has prompted Indian appliance makers to increase prices across categories. Despite this, firms such as Haier India, LG Electronics India, Sony India and Godrej Enterprises expect the festive buying season—spanning Onam, Navratri, Dussehra and Diwali—to deliver double-digit growth in value and volume.

Haier foresees a 30-35% jump in sales value and about 20% unit growth, citing premiumisation and financing options. LG highlights strong pre-festive inquiries and expanding demand for premium and smart appliances, especially in Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets. Sony projects 15-20% value growth, driven by high-end TV and audio products, while Godrej expects existing inventory to cover early Diwali sales before new price levels take effect. Industry analysts note that the festive window typically accounts for 30-40% of annual sales and that the broader consumer-durables market is projected to expand 8-10% yearly to reach roughly Rs 3-3.25 lakh crore by 2030.

Why it matters

The outlook signals robust consumer spending in India despite inflation, influencing manufacturers, retailers and financing firms.
