Archaeologists uncover rare bronze waterbird and pig-leg figurine on Haná
Rescue excavations along the planned D55 route in Haná have yielded a tiny bronze waterbird figurine among a trove of other artifacts.
The archaeological work, conducted on a seven-kilometre stretch between Kokory and Přerov, uncovered almost two thousand objects and more than sixty burial sites. Among the finds is a 23-millimetre bronze bird weighing under ten grams, a pig-leg figurine and a bronze duck. The discoveries were made while clearing the path for the new highway.
Why it matters
The finds document hidden cultural heritage that would otherwise be lost to highway construction.
