Archer-Daniels-Midland faces class-action suit after employee data posted on dark web

Former and current staff of Archer-Daniels-Midland have lodged a class-action complaint alleging that a cyber intrusion by the group known as Qilin compromised employee identification information, which was subsequently posted on the dark web. The lawsuit claims the company lacked adequate safeguards such as encryption, multifactor authentication and employee training, violating Federal Trade Commission recommendations.

It also accuses ADM of delaying breach notification, depriving workers of time to protect their credit. The plaintiffs, represented by Matthew Ranney, estimate over 100 workers were impacted and are seeking both compensatory and punitive damages along with court orders to improve security. ADM, which reported $1.1 billion earnings before taxes in Q2 2026, has not commented on its cybersecurity practices. The case underscores growing concerns over data protection in large agribusiness firms.
