Argentina launches program to sell citizenship to foreign investors
The Argentine government announced a scheme that offers passports and nationality to overseas investors who contribute funds to the state treasury.
Argentina unveiled a citizenship-by-investment program that will begin operating at the close of 2026. Applicants may obtain nationality by either making a direct, non-refundable contribution to the state treasury or by buying a dedicated state bond, with provisions extending benefits to spouses and children when further payments are provided. Officials state that the collected capital will be directed toward strengthening the country’s fiscal position and that a rigorous oversight system will track the money to curb illicit flows.
In tandem with the scheme, the administration is removing existing limits on land ownership by foreigners. The move follows data showing Argentina recorded the lowest direct foreign investment among leading Latin American economies in 2025, according to the OECD.
