Argos launches UK's first plug-in solar panel kits for DIY home use
Argos is now the first UK retailer to sell plug-in solar panel kits that can be installed without professional wiring.
A new government initiative allowing plug-in solar panels aims to cut household electricity costs by enabling a plug-and-play setup that needs no extra wiring. The kits include an IP67-rated microinverter, a short cable and mounting hardware, allowing panels to be placed on ground stands or other fixings and plugged directly into a standard socket. While retailers such as Currys, B&Q, Screwfix, Wickes and Amazon have committed to carrying the products, Argos has become the first to actually stock them, offering UKSOL options like a 460 W single-panel kit and a two-panel system with 445 W panels that can be monitored via an app.
The smallest offering, a 515 W panel paired with an 800 W inverter, is expected to ship by late October. Experts advise careful handling of the heavier panels and suggest using a professionally installed exterior plug for safety.
