Arkansas Senate hopeful Hallie Shoffner draws fire for praising undocumented farm workers

Hallie Shoffner, the Democratic contender for the U.S. Senate seat in Arkansas, sparked controversy after a podcast appearance in which she claimed undocumented farm laborers outperform American workers, saying one immigrant could replace five citizens. She recounted a conversation with a Republican farmer about the reliance on such labor and urged a legal route for these workers, noting their contributions to the economy.

Shoffner has also expressed support for defunding Immigration and Customs Enforcement, though a recent Facebook one outlet indicated she now favors reform rather than elimination. Sen. Tom Cotton’s campaign seized on the remarks, alleging she has hired illegal aliens and pressing other Democrats to disclose their views on the issue. Shoffner’s campaign manager argued the comments were taken out of context and accused Cotton of cherry-picking sound bites to misrepresent the discussion.
