Armed men posing as police free detainee from Serres hospital
A quartet disguised as OPKE officers entered Serres hospital, seized police weapons and escaped with a prisoner who had been transferred for medical tests.
Late Friday night, a prisoner experiencing discomfort was moved to Serres hospital for medical evaluation. Shortly after his arrival, four armed individuals wearing OPKE police uniforms surrounded the police officers on duty, threatened them with guns, and took their weapons. The assailants then vanished together with the detainee, who is described as a serious violent criminal.
The Hellenic Police have launched a full investigation to locate both the escaped suspect and his accomplices. A car bearing counterfeit license plates, suspected to have been used in the escape, has been found. Officials continue to search for further leads and aim to prevent similar incidents.
