A massive police response was mounted in the Mittenwald area, involving numerous patrol units, an aerial helicopter, and the deployment of the Cobra special-operations team at the Scharnitz-Mittenwald border crossing. The Bavarian authorities cautioned residents against offering rides or confronting the suspects, noting the possibility that they are still armed.
