Armed suspect crashes into patrol car, fires on deputies before fleeing into woods
Police placed a small California town under lockdown after 44-year-old Derek Spencer rammed a patrol vehicle, shot at officers and a helicopter, and escaped into the surrounding forest.
Deputies from the Placer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance in Iowa Hill around 10:30 a.m. when Derek Spencer, wanted on multiple felony counts, drove his car into a sheriff patrol car and opened fire on law-enforcement personnel and an airborne unit. The gunfire prompted officials to order all residents to lock doors and remain indoors. Spencer, described as a bald man with a goatee wearing a black T-shirt, was last seen heading into the nearby woods, and the search for the armed and dangerous suspect continues.
