Armed suspect posing as PMO official detained at Mumbai fintech festival venue
Police in Mumbai arrested a 24-year-old man and his armed bodyguard after the man claimed to be a Prime Minister’s Office official at the Global Fintech Fest venue.
During preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's inauguration of the Global Fintech Fest 2026, Mumbai police intercepted a 24-year-old man and a bodyguard at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Bandra-Kurla Complex. The suspect asserted he was an official from the Prime Minister’s Office and was accompanied by a gun-bearing guard. Both were detained while officers recovered the firearm and began scrutinising their mobile devices, identity papers and other belongings.
The Mumbai Crime Branch has started questioning the pair to uncover the purpose of their entry into the heavily guarded venue with a weapon and a counterfeit ID. No further details about their identities or the exact circumstances of the gun's recovery have been released. The fintech festival, a four-day event, is scheduled to conclude on September 11.
