Arms firm eyeing Fife plant refuses to disclose overseas customers

TBG International, proposing a new weapons factory on the former Mossmorran site in Fife, declined a request to name the foreign governments it supplies.

TBG International is considering building an arms manufacturing facility on the former ExxonMobil premises at Mossmorran in Fife and has provided tentative plans to the council. When asked by MSP Mark Ruskell to identify the foreign militaries it serves, the company refused, only stating it supplies a "NATO-allied" country. Ruskell highlighted the need for openness given the involvement of nations with questionable human-rights records, mentioning Israel and Saudi Arabia as examples.

He warned that the UK arms sector often sells to dictatorships while avoiding scrutiny and called for a community-led, just transition for the site. The Stop the War Coalition echoed the demand for full disclosure. Fife Council’s Mossmorran Task Force says any future proposal will undergo normal planning, regulatory and consultation procedures, respecting commercial confidentiality. TBG International did not respond to further comment requests.

Why it matters

Transparency about arms exports affects local consent and raises human-rights concerns over weapons supplied to controversial regimes.
