Army unit offers four-day GTA VI gaming pass as reenlistment perk
A unit of the U.S. Army will grant soldiers a four-day Grand Theft Auto VI play pass if they reenlist between Aug. 1 and Nov. 14.
The Army’s 9th Brigade Engineering Battalion, part of the 3rd Infantry Division stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia, is introducing a novel reenlistment incentive. Service members who sign a contract between Aug. 1 and Nov. 14 for a minimum of two years, up to six, will be granted a four-day pass to play the upcoming video game Grand Theft Auto VI. Lieutenant Colonel Angel Tomko explained that the idea is to create a unique reward that resonates with what soldiers enjoy.
The memo indicates that 130 soldiers are eligible, and twenty have already chosen the gaming pass as part of their reenlistment. This initiative joins traditional bonuses such as education benefits, location choices, retraining programs, and high-value cash awards, but stands out for its focus on entertainment.
Why it matters
It shows how the military is using pop-culture incentives to attract and retain personnel.
