Around 1,500 demonstrators gather in Geneva demanding Swiss sanctions on Israel

About 1,500 people assembled in Geneva, calling for a Swiss military, energy and trade embargo against Israel and urging the arrest of Israeli leaders under ICC warrants.

On Saturday, around 1,500 protesters gathered in Geneva under the banner of the Collectif Urgence Palestine, demanding that Switzerland impose a full military, energy and commercial embargo on Israel. The crowd, which began marching later than scheduled, voiced accusations of ethnic cleansing and the use of starvation as a war tactic in Gaza, echoing United Nations warnings. They also singled out the behavior of Israeli settlers in the West Bank, which Switzerland recently condemned.

Participants accused the Swiss government of passive support for Israel over the last three years and called for the termination of all bilateral relations, including a drone weapons contract. The demonstrators urged Swiss authorities to apply International Court of Justice rulings aimed at preventing genocide and to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant under International Criminal Court arrest warrants. Police reported the event remained peaceful throughout.

Why it matters

The protest highlights growing pressure on Switzerland to take a firmer stance against Israel amid the ongoing Gaza conflict.
