Around ten Paris high schools face blockage attempts amid student protests

According to the Paris rectorate, less than ten of the capital's 90 high schools faced blockage attempts early Tuesday, and no incidents of violence or injuries were reported. At Lycée Arago, around thirty young people, some wearing black and masks, blocked the two entrances with bins and displayed banners denouncing the government, while also setting off a few fireworks and firecrackers. Nearby, police vans were stationed but did not intervene.

At Lycée Lamartine, about 80 pupils assembled with bins and signs protesting long school days, and two police vehicles were positioned nearby. A 17-year-old student, speaking anonymously, said the protests support teachers' unions and highlight issues such as staff shortages, inadequate equipment, high classroom temperatures, and overloaded timetables. The actions follow a week-long wave of student mobilisations across the Île-de-France region, which expanded to other French cities on Monday, with the Union syndicale lycéenne calling for nationwide school blockages.
