Ashley Cole departs England Under-21 coaching staff after five-year stint
Former defender Ashley Cole has quit his position with England's Under-21 team after five years, having helped secure two European titles.
After a five-year tenure, former Chelsea and Arsenal defender Ashley Cole stepped down from his role on England's Under-21 coaching staff. During his time, the team, under Lee Carsley's leadership, captured consecutive European Under-21 championships, with Carsley highlighting Cole's positive impact and tactical expertise. Cole, who hung up his boots in 2019, completed his coaching qualifications at Derby County under Frank Lampard and later served in Chelsea's youth system, as well as assistant positions at Everton and Birmingham City under Wayne Rooney.
He also contributed to the senior England side during Carsley's interim spell in 2024. In March, Cole took charge of Serie B club Cesena but left the position in June after discussions about a change in the club's strategy. His playing career includes 107 caps for England and multiple domestic and European trophies.
