Asia Overtakes West in Streaming Scripted Series Greenlights for First Half of 2026

In the first six months of 2026, the Asia-Pacific region accounted for the most first-run scripted series orders from major global streamers, outpacing North America and Europe.

Ampere Analysis reports that during January-June 2026, Asia-Pacific became the top source of first-run scripted series orders among global streaming services, representing 36 % of all such commissions. The region secured 70 orders, compared with 46 in North America and 44 in Western Europe, while all other regions combined produced only 34. India contributed the most with 25 series, and South Korea ranked second; notable increases were also recorded in Taiwan and the Philippines.

Amazon Prime Video and Netflix dominate the push into APAC, with Netflix quadrupling its scripted orders in Taiwan and Amazon adding five new series in the Philippines. The dominant genre was crime and thriller, while sci-fi and fantasy orders fell sharply. Analysts say the surge reflects streamers' strategy to grow subscriber bases and capitalize on Asian content that resonates globally.
