Asian Games grapples with cramped temporary housing as athletes voice complaints

With the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games opening this weekend, organisers are using a mix of a cruise liner, container-style huts and city hotels to house more than 17,000 participants. About 4,000 people are slated for the Italian cruise ship Costa Serena, while roughly 2,000 will stay in wooden container huts, and hotels serve as a fallback. South Korean officials have described the huts as too cramped, and a Korean basketball player posted video of leaking sinks.

Deputy Chef de Mission Hisashi Mizutori said room assignments sometimes mix genders, coaches and athletes, creating practical difficulties. Organisers have defended the temporary accommodation despite the complaints.
