Asian markets show mixed moves as Wall Street dips and AI earnings surge

Asian equities fluctuated Thursday after modest declines on Wall Street, while Nvidia’s AI-chip earnings beat forecasts and lifted U.S. futures.

Wall Street posted small losses on Thursday, prompting mixed reactions across Asian exchanges. One outlet 225 fell 0.2% to 66,162.72, the Hang Seng dropped 0.4% to 25,548.83, while the Kospi climbed 1.5% to 6,909.81 and Taiwan’s Taiex rose 0.5%. SoftBank Group edged up 0.1% and Samsung Electronics gained 2% after Nvidia announced quarterly revenue that more than doubled year-over-year, underscoring robust AI chip demand.

Meta Platforms’ stock rose 1.1% following a settlement agreement of up to $18 billion and new child-safety measures. China reported a slowdown in July industrial profits to 11.2% from 15.1% in June, and Brent crude slipped 0.5% to $86.49 per barrel. U.S. inflation data showed a 3.7% rate, slightly above expectations, while the yen weakened to 159.38 per dollar.
