South African drugmaker Aspen Pharmacare says its rollout of weight-loss medicines will boost earnings by 17% next year.
Aspen Pharmacare will sell Eli Lilly's Mounjaro in South Africa and launch its own generic version aimed at local markets, South America and the Middle East. The company projects the new products to lift its profit by 17% in the coming year. Although Africa currently represents only a small slice of the global $100 billion weight-loss market, rising obesity rates are expanding demand. South Africa has become a key battleground for Eli Lilly’s Mounjaro and Novo Nordisk’s Ozempic.
