Assam Rifles and DRI seize 109 kg of Yaba worth ₹327 crore at border

Based on specific intelligence, a joint team of the Assam Rifles and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence carried out a coordinated raid on the night of September 15-16 in the Ramnathpur area of Hailakandi district, close to the Mizoram border. The sweep recovered 546 packets of Yaba tablets, totaling 109.2 kg and valued at roughly ₹327 crore, along with two trucks, a mobile phone, an Aadhaar card and a driving licence, and resulted in the detention of one person.

Authorities described the seizure as one of the biggest drug recoveries ever recorded in Assam, striking a blow to traffickers who move narcotics from Myanmar through the region. The bust follows a previous seizure of about 60 kg of Yaba in Cachar district and comes amid Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s warnings that smugglers are shifting routes. State officials have also announced plans to open government-run rehabilitation centres in every district to address addiction. The operation highlights intensified cooperation between security forces to curb the illegal drug trade in the Barak Valley and surrounding border areas.
