Aston Villa kick off Champions League with 3-2 triumph over Club Brugge
Aston Villa defeated Club Brugge 3-2 in their opening Champions League match, with Hugo Vetlesen scoring the visitors' goal.
In the first group-stage game of the Champions League, Aston Villa secured a 3-2 victory over Club Brugge. John McGinn gave Villa the early lead in the 11th minute after a long ball from defender Pau Torres. Hugo Vetlesen scored for Brugge shortly before halftime, but Nicolas Jackson restored Villa’s advantage before the break and later added a third following a defensive lapse by Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Brugge rallied, with Joaquin Seys finding the net and Nicolo Tresoldi converting a penalty, yet Villa maintained control to finish the match. Villa’s next fixture is a home game against Fenerbahçe in about a month, while Brugge will travel to Milan to meet Inter. In a separate match, Greek side AEK beat Austria’s LASK 1-0 thanks to a goal from Razvan Marin.
