Astros add veteran Brent Strom as pitching consultant for playoff push
Houston hired former pitching coach Brent Strom as a consultant for the remainder of the season as they chase a postseason berth.
The Houston Astros have brought back longtime pitching strategist Brent Strom as a consulting advisor for the rest of the campaign, according to manager Joe Espada. Strom is slated to arrive in uniform on Friday, just as the club begins a series at Citi Field, and will collaborate with pitching coach Josh Miller and assistant Ethan Katz. The organization hopes his perspective will help address a staff ERA that sits fifth-highest among major-league teams.
Strom’s earlier tenure with Houston from 2014 through 2021 featured three appearances in the World Series. His résumé also includes pitching coach roles with the Kansas City Royals, Arizona Diamondbacks and a 2025 assistant position with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Why it matters
Strom's return could bolster Houston's pitching staff as the team fights for a playoff spot.
