Asus launches OLED Xbox Ally X20 handheld for $1,300

Asus now offers the Xbox Ally X20 handheld on its own for $1,300, with shipments slated for mid-October.

Asus has confirmed that the Xbox Ally X20 handheld will be sold as a standalone unit for $1,300, available for pre-order at Best Buy and the company’s online store, with shipping beginning on October 15. The new model upgrades to a 7.4-inch 1080p OLED screen, touted as the brightest and fastest on a handheld, and includes a rotating D-pad, comfortable grips, and the removal of the Xbox Library button. Don Nguyen says the device mirrors the ROG 20th Anniversary prototype shown at Asus’s U.S. offices.

While the $1,300 price tag is higher than the original $1,000 Ally X, Asus will continue to sell the lower-priced $1,000 and $600 versions, according to Anthony Spence. For buyers with a larger budget, a bundled package adds a pair of 240 Hz ROG XREAL X1 glasses, a Dbrand Killswitch protective case, and a Pelican travel case, bringing the total to about $2,500. The X20 is not the most powerful handheld on the market, but it aims to be the most refined and comfortable Windows portable gaming option this fall.

Why it matters

The launch introduces a high-end handheld gaming PC with an OLED screen, expanding options for mobile gamers.
