At least 19 dead after suspected illegal liquor poisoning in Nagaland
Nineteen people have died in Nagaland after consuming suspected adulterated alcohol, prompting police to launch an investigation.
A total of 19 deaths have been linked to the consumption of suspected illicit liquor in Nagaland, with eight victims in Mokokchung and eleven in Tuensang districts. Senior Superintendent Vesupra Kezo announced the creation of a Special Investigation Team, headed by Additional Superintendent I Bunglang Chang, to identify the origin and distribution network of the contaminated alcohol. Forensic analysis of seized samples is being conducted in Guwahati.
Police raids have led to the detention of 19 suspects and the confiscation of close to 3,000 bottles. Officials have urged the public to steer clear of unidentified or unlabelled spirits and to seek immediate medical attention if they experience dizziness, blurred vision, breathing difficulties, or loss of consciousness after drinking.
