Atalanta's €30 million bid for Bologna winger Jonathan Rowe turned down

Atalanta proposed a €30 million package for Bologna's Jonathan Rowe, but the offer was rejected after interest from Aston Villa emerged.

Atalanta submitted a transfer package valued at €30 million for Bologna's winger Jonathan Rowe, but the Serie A club rejected the offer after reports of Aston Villa's interest surfaced. The move comes as Atalanta, fresh from a 0-0 first-leg draw with Hapoel Tel-Aviv in the Conference League play-off, seeks to bolster the squad under new manager Maurizio Sarri. Earlier in the day the club announced the loan acquisition of Eljif Elmas from RB Leipzig, with an option to buy.

Rowe, who joined Bologna from Olympique Marseille for €17 million plus a resale clause, posted eight goals and five assists across 43 competitive matches last season. Sky Sport Italia's transfer pundit Gianluca Di Marzio confirmed the bid, but Bologna remains resolute in retaining the player for the upcoming season.

Why it matters

The failed transfer highlights Bologna's determination to keep key talent amid interest from larger clubs.
