Attorney General seeks appeal of court release for teen accused of school murder

The Attorney General's Chambers announced that it has submitted a notice of appeal to the Court of Appeal, challenging a High Court judgment that freed a teenage suspect. The teen faced a Section 302 Penal Code charge for killing a schoolmate in a girls' restroom at a national secondary school in Bandar Utama. Judge Adlin Abdul Majid had dismissed the charge after determining the accused was not of sound mind during the incident and ordered his confinement at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta, Perak, pending the Sultan of Selangor's approval.

The victim’s mother, Wong Lee Ping, has called on the AGC to file the appeal within the statutory 14-day period, expressing concerns over justice for the victim and student safety. She urged the authorities to consider the broader implications and seek a higher court review.
