August Bank Closures Across Indian States: Dates and Services Affected
Several Indian states will observe bank holidays this August, with branches closed on specific dates for regional festivals and RBI-mandated Saturdays.
Bank patrons across India need to check the holiday calendar before visiting a branch this month. In Tripura, banks will be closed on August 19 to mark the birthday of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur. Kerala and Andhra Pradesh will observe a holiday on August 25 for Milad-Un-Nabi and the first Onam celebration.
On August 26, banks in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Delhi, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand will be shut for Id-E-Milad. A further set of states, including Gujarat, Sikkim, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh, will close on August 28 for Raksha Bandhan and other regional festivals. The Reserve Bank of India also mandates closures on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. While branch services such as cheque processing and large cash withdrawals will pause, digital channels like internet banking, mobile apps, ATMs and UPI will continue to function.
Why it matters
