August IPO market surges with 100% average gains and record investor registrations

In August, primary market listings doubled in value, while new investor registrations on the NSE rose sharply, driven largely by western India.

August’s primary market delivered a remarkable 100% average listing gain, as eighteen mainland IPOs generated ₹28,976 crore and lifted total market value to ₹2.48 trillion, roughly 8.6 times the amount raised. Manipal Payment alone contributed 32% of the month’s fundraising and 40.5% of the combined market value, while the top three issues captured 51.6% of total capital. Small-cap issues posted the strongest returns, with Tempsens rising 111.3%, Technocraft 81.4% and Behari Lal 63.2%.

Investor participation expanded rapidly, with NSE registrations reaching 1.5 million, up 16.5% from July, driven by a 40.9% surge in western India. Gujarat emerged as the leading source of new investors, adding 230,000 registrations, overtaking Uttar Pradesh, which contributed 200,000. The data highlight a shifting dynamic toward faster-growing regional markets within India’s equity fundraising landscape.
