AUR chief Simion says party will reject Mureșan government amid alleged pressure
AUR leader George Simion announced on Facebook that his party will not back Siegfried Vasile Mureșan’s government, claiming pressure and noting that members left the chamber to support Călin Georgescu.
In a Facebook message, George Simion, head of the AUR party, declared that AUR will not vote for the Siegfried Vasile Mureșan government, rejecting what he described as intense pressure. He said AUR members abandoned the plenary session and will remain aligned with Călin Georgescu, who was summoned for questioning after DIICOT agents conducted a nine-hour search of his residence. Simion appeared in parliament holding a banner reading “Stop political police,” while other AUR senators displayed protest placards aimed at one outlet authorities.
The party also reaffirmed its support for former 2024 presidential contender Călin Georgescu. This stance highlights ongoing friction between AUR and the ruling coalition ahead of the confidence vote.
Why it matters
The refusal could affect the confidence vote for the new government and signal heightened political tension in Romania.
