AUR deputy Laura Gherasim completes report on 2024 election cancellation

AUR deputy Laura Gherasim, who leads the Chamber’s committee for investigating abuses, corruption and petitions, reported that her report on the annulment of Romania's 2024 presidential election is now complete. The study involved reviewing official papers and speaking with individuals involved to assess whether the decision rested on legal grounds and adequate evidence. Earlier, Gherasim organized a five-day series of public hearings in Parliament under the banner “Democracy on Trial” and later sought to start a formal parliamentary investigation, but the effort was stifled due to insufficient backing.

She emphasized that the report does not aim to defend any party but to scrutinize the decision-making process. In the coming days, Gherasim intends to disclose the documents, inconsistencies and hidden aspects she identified, urging the state to substantiate its actions. She warned that the cancellation represents a severe blow to democratic principles.
