AUR leader Simion claims Georgescu's detention is retaliation for winning 2024 election

George Simion told conservative influencer Mario Nawfal that Călin Georgescu’s arrest stems from his victory in the 2024 presidential race and a campaign to undermine their party.

During a conversation with influencer Mario Nawfal, AUR leader George Simion asserted that former presidential candidate Călin Georgescu was imprisoned only for his legitimate win in the 2024 election and his refusal to align with what Simion described as a parallel state in Romania and Brussels. Simion recounted Georgescu’s recent nationwide tour, where he met tens of thousands of supporters, and claimed the authorities fabricated a third legal case to keep him behind bars for up to a year.

He noted that Georgescu’s wife and father have also been summoned for questioning, turning the process into a televised spectacle. Simion warned that one outlet president, Nicușor Dan, is a “marionette” and said his party could secure a parliamentary majority in early elections, enabling them to suspend Dan. He also mentioned threats against his own family and pledged to resist any further pressure.
